No Need to Bother Your Abuela Anymore!
The Ingredients & Instructions:
Ingredients
- DRIED CORN HUSK
- 4 cups MASECA "INSTANT CORN MASA MIX"
- 1 1/2 cups LARD
- 1 tbsp SALT
- 2 tsp CUMIN
- 1 1/2 tsp BAKING POWDER
- 3 1/2 cups BROTH or WATER
Instructions
- Soak CORN HUSK in warm water for about 30 minutes or until pliable, and then drain the water
- Preferably with a stand mixer or hand mixer, whip LARD until smooth
- In a separate bowl whisk together the MASECA, SALT, CUMIN, and BAKING POWDER
- Slowly mix in the DRY INGREDIENTS with the LARD and beat until smooth
- slowly pour BROTH or WATER in a smooth stream and beat until the DOUGH is fluffy, soft, and has the consistency of cornbread batter
- Spread the DOUGH over the CORN HUSK and place one tablespoon of Barbacoa Beef or your favorite filling in the center
- Fold the sides of the CORN HUSKS in toward the center, and then fold the narrow end up.
- Place TAMALES in a steamer basket and steam for 1 hour
